Regarding the literal truth observation you make, I am fairly sure that if I had been raised in a Christian tradition that did not insist on literal Biblical truth, I would still be a Christian.

Raised in a faith that seemed to literally depend on belief in literally impossible things, abandoning faith was the only thing I knew how to do.

It’s hard to put the genie back in the bottle.

It was not until decades later I met Christians who practice faith without textual literalism.

I didn’t even know that was possible!

I think you raise a very important point.
