Regarding that spatial thing, I don't know if it impacts fighter pilots, but air forces around the world have been really surprised by something in the last couple decades. Women make kick-ass fighter pilots. So kick-ass that some air forces, like the Israeli Air Force and the Indian Air Force, go out of their way to recruit women.

I say surprised, by the way, only because this isn't what men were expecting to happen. Male fighter pilots presumed women would be too emotional, too spatially challenged, etc, you know the drill.

But senior military managers tend to be extraordinarily pragmatic, so when data started coming in showing women fighter pilots outperforming men fighter pilots, they sat up and paid attention.

Nobody really knows why the phenomenon is happening, maybe it's like what you said with surgeons. Maybe women who are extraordinary enough to overcome sexist obstacles to becoming fighter pilots are just so tough that they're better at it.

Or maybe there really is something innate. Nobody knows. One thing we know is, don't mess with a woman fighter jock.
