Readers may be interested to know that pederast was, at the time, common vernacular for homosexual, and not (or not necessarily) a reference to pedophilia. That usage remained current longer in French, and has spawned the contemporary slur pédé, an insulting reference to a gay man, but not an accusation that he is a pedophile.
Both men would have been very clear that Uranian referred to a gay man or a lesbian. They would have also known that the Uranian movement was disruptive of gender identity and gender roles. Some people have the sense today that transgender ideas are new, but the Uranians spoke and wrote transgressively about gender and claimed they were bringing forward even older thinking.
