Queer baiting can be a real problem, but artists don't owe us their personal lives. Thank you for writing about the difference!
I can pretty much tell when showrunners queer bait me. If they lead me to believe some queer story line is going to be important or that it's going to feel representative, and then it doesn't, I've been baited.
That sucks, but can we please stop extending that scenario to actors, musicians, etc, who are real people with real private lives?
And when young people are involved, can we be especially careful, please? Outing a teenager would be shocking in most contexts. I hope we can remember that.
