Possibly, but not a lot of people remember the 1980s and '90s very well. I happen to because of my direct personal experience often feeling frustrated, annoyed, and even sometimes fiery angry at the New York Times.

Later, the Times was fairly well on board with ideas of equality in the military and marriage — with paradigms that promoted a kind of heteronormative queerness, as much those terms are contradictory.

It's easy not to think about that, and to just sort of presume that the Times editorial board is progressive. So, I'm not criticizing your former privilege. Just pointing out something that very many of us have forgotten!
