Peter, I once taught a pre-calculus class to a group of adult students who had finished their GEDs and wanted to keep studying with an eye toward preparing for college.

I have to tell you that we all had an absolute blast. There wasn’t a lot of pressure because nobody really had anything at stake.

We were all there because we wanted to be.

Studying the concepts of functions and limits and the beauty of trigonometry really stirred some of my students because a lot of it is absolutely fascinating .

It’s sad to me that math so often has to be a distasteful chore.

We could do a much better job with teaching it than we do.
