People will probably find this comment strange, but I love eating bluefish. When I lived in New York City, every corner diner had bluefish on the menu, often dirt cheap or part of an even cheaper special.

Bluefish tastes meaty. It has a bit of a chew to it, and a lot of fat, which is probably why people can find it off-putting. That fat can have a pretty distinctive flavor. Some people call it fishy, which I guess for them means it’s unpleasant, but for a fish lover like me, that’s not a negative strike.

I live in Michigan now, and bluefish is non-existent in markets and restaurants here. We’re surrounded by the Great Lakes, so we eat a lot of fish, but rarely ocean fish and nothing like the meaty delicious bluefish.
