Pensacola Christian College is an independent Baptist university that offers 4-year liberal arts degrees. With a student body of over 5,000 they have become a powerhouse in the Evangelical world, with graduates standing behind pulpits in churches all over the U.S., some of them also sitting in Congress or pushing anti-LGBTQ laws as politicians in states like Tennessee.
Like many other Evangelical institutions, PCC is growing more strident on queer issues. They've joined others in drawing a line in the sand: If you're queer you cannot be a Christian, and good Christians must discriminate against you and exclude you.
PCC was already famous in the Evangelical world when I was young. But I cannot imagine that in those days they would have cancelled a concert by a renowned sacred-music choral group because of the private life of one member.
This is how bad things are getting. Evangelical Christians are fast becoming even more hateful and exclusionary.
I'm glad you pointed out their claim to have treated the group with respect and dignity, which is nothing short of orwellian twisting of the meaning of those words.
