Outstanding review, Manuel Betancourt. Thank you. Your insights are important and they resonate deeply with me.
I’ve largely shied away from writing about queer children in my own fiction, my youngest queer character being a 14 year old already in the full flush of adolescence.
I’ve written about my own pre-pubescent queer childhood just a little.
I was barely aware of the sweet thoughts that whispered longing for the neighbor boy into my soul. They were part of me, like my longing for sweet corn with fresh butter and pepper. I didn’t challenge my desires then. I just tasted them.
I’m wondering if I should start learning how to write about younger queer children.
