One thing that helps me a lot writing fiction is to follow the advice John Irving gives to students at the Iowa Writers Workshop.

Write the last chapter first.

I mean, he gives a lot more advice than that about the process of writing of a novel, but for me, if I know what I’m writing toward, I’m at least a little less likely not to know what comes next.

I find it helpful.
