One important addition to your excellent article: while Catholic lay people in the US tend to be very accepting of LGBTQ people including transgender people, Catholic clergy are in general very much not accepting.

Catholic churches, schools, and universities are very toxic and dangerous places for LGBTQ folks.

I find the disconnect between Catholic people and Catholic leaders very odd. That’s something you don’t generally find in the Protestant Christian world.

I only raise the point because the statistics can be misleading. Even though Catholic lay people tend to be socially liberal, Catholic clergy are trained to completely dismiss the reality of transgender lives, and institutional policy in the church is pretty bad.

Many archdioceses in the United States push conversion therapy on transgender youth. They don’t call it that, but that’s exactly what it is.

Worth a note of caution, I think.
