One good suggestion is to encourage interested students to start up GSA clubs in their schools. GSA originally stood for "Gay Straight Alliance" but now is often broken out as "Gender and Sexual Alliance." GSAs are student-led clubs where LGBTQ teens and their friends meet after school to support one another, learn about diversity, and build solidarity against bully culture and marginalization.
Studies have shown that schools with active GSAs experience a significant decrease in bullying for all students, not just LGBTQ students.
For kids interested in forming a GSA and for teachers interested in being a faculty advisor, resources kits are available at GLSEN, a national LGBTQ education advocacy organization. GLSEN doesn't help run GSAs, but they do get good information into the hands of students and teachers who want it.
