One could even make the simplistic argument that Rome did not begin to fall until Christianity became the official religion. That’s strictly true, although probably not causal.

Another point well worth mentioning is that our modern conception of the fall of Rome really isn’t correct anyway. Eastern portions of the Empire thrived for centuries after Germanic tribes overwhelmed the western portion.
