Once again, Florida is leading the nation in breaking down separation of church and state and in persecuting queer people.

Iowa’s voucher bill is very similar to what Florida has been doing already for years. I’ve written several stories about private religious schools in Florida that are almost entirely taxpayer funded and that unapologetically discriminate against LGBTQ students, family members, and teachers.

I’m talking about kicking a kindergartener out of school because her moms got married. I’m talking about withholding the diploma of a high school senior because she came out as a lesbian. I’m talking about firing a drama teacher because she married her wife.

All of this on the taxpayer dime, all of this supported by a state that is supposedly not Constitutionally allowed to establish religion.

Iowa Republicans see what Florida is doing, and they want it for themselves.
