Okay, so I’m that geeky kid who read Dune first in the late 70s and lost track of how many times since. I’ve watched and been disappointed by screen adaptations ever since. I came to believe Herbert’s universe could not be believably rendered that way.

I was wrong. Villeneuve did it, and he did it beautifully. Like you, I don’t think he did a perfect job, but I really felt like I was there in that universe that has been so important to me for so long.

I’ve been talking to people in the last couple days who didn’t read the books. I wanted to know how they experienced the film, because I know I can never experience it like that. So far, impressions have been uniformly positive.

That makes me really happy, because, damn it, I really want to see part two get made.
