As a supporter of trans rights, I've observed that a trans woman is not the same as a born woman - in the pages of mainstream, respected LGBTQ publications. That simple observation is factual and not controversial. What you do with the observation certainly can be controversial, however. I'd suggest that what you did with it is what got the article rejected.
