Oh my god, how my eyes rolled when I read Alito's pre-buttal. He admits the Alaska jaunt was a purely social function while simultaneously claiming to have no personal, social connection with the billionaire who paid the tab. Why, the seat in the billionaire's private jet would have gone unused if Alito hadn't taken it. The horror! And the accommodations? Rustic! Can you imagine?

It's like Alito has no idea how expensive an Alaskan fishing vacation is, how utterly out of reach it is for most Americans, especially those of us who don't have billionaire buddies willing to jet us around, put us up in cabins that go for hundreds of dollars a night on the open market, feed us in the process, drive us around, and supply us with free (but very expensive) fishing guides who make sure we catch something.

That all sounds pretty cool to me! Can I get some of that sweet Alaska holiday?

Oh, I guess I can't, because I don't know any billionaires with business before the court. And of course, I don't sit on any court. I'm not a powerful person. Billionaires don't court me.

Duh?

To your main point: Yes!

What's with this need to try to reinforce Christianity with laws and government policy? If Christian ideas are so robust, why not just sell them?

If you have to force them, something is evidently quite wrong with them.
