Oh, I don't know. Americans change religions like they change hats, for example. Maybe some of that is knee jerk, but I think some of it is more deliberate. I realized I was an atheist when I was 16, but it wasn't just something that happened to be magically. I undertook a deliberate, very thoughtful process that lasted for about a year. I thought long and deeply about what I believed and why I believed it. I don't think my experiences are so unique. I think people are perhaps a bit smarter and wiser than you give them credit for.
