Oddly enough (or not), the village where I live Up North in Michigan makes it almost impossible to remove leaves in fall. For decades, they've maintained an Oct 31 cutoff for setting bags of leaves on the curb for pickup. On November 1, they start converting the dump truck (yes, there's only one 😂) to serve as a snow plow.

I guess that used to work out just fine. But what with climate change and all, most of us still have at least half the leaves remaining on our maple trees by that date. My lawn fills up, and I have no way short of burning —which I'm not going to use for all sorts of good reasons — to remove the leaves.

Quite unintentionally, the village council have made my leaf disposal decision for me and most of my neighbors — just by not changing how things have "always" been done.

I'll dispose of most of the leaves in the spring, when the dump truck goes back to refuse-collection duty.
