Not to be pedantic, but this is actually something I put a good bit of thought into, especially when I was studying mathematics for fun more than a decade ago.

Think about this for a moment. Populations increase geometrically. Meaning that they double at a particular rate considering the birth rate remains the same, then double again, then double again then double again, etc.

The population increase can be represented by a quadratic equation that graphs to a parabola. All parabolas, no matter how shallow they start eventually shoot up and asymptote the y-axis. They turn into an almost vertical line as they shoot to infinity.

I wish I knew how to do mathematical notation on Medium, which would make this easier, but try to bear with me.

Say your population increase equation was represented by a quadratic like x squared - 100x + 7. Say the -100x is the number of gay men you subtract out of the reproductive pool every generation.

If you graphed that equation side by side with x squared + 7 instead, eliminating the subtraction of gay men, you would notice that after a very short time the parabolas would come to look almost the same.

An arithmetic function cannot compete with exponentiation.

And that’s why gay men in terms of population control, as popular in idea as it is for cause and effect, doesn’t actually work out.

We’re further complicated by the fact that lots of gay men actually have children anyway … and by the fact that people who study natural selection say they can’t work out how the theory would account for population control like that. They say natural selection doesn’t work that way. Of course they could be wrong, but we’re still stuck with the basic mathematical problem.

Anyway, sorry for the diversion. Do gay men have more sex than straight men? Some gay men sure do! But then some straight men are total horn dogs. I’m thinking of married straight man I’ve worked with who used every business trip as an opportunity to have sex with tons of women, even if they had to pay them. How they behaved at home, I wouldn’t know, but I sure got to see how they behaved on the road when I was with them.

I’m not saying all straight men are like that of course. But I’ve certainly known some personally who are. LOL
