Not being in charge of other people's lives is a principle that ought to resonate powerfully across the nation. Nobody wants their lives controlled by strangers (or anyone) who doesn't share their values.

Somehow, most of the Right have decided that the right to live free of the control of others is no longer a value to promote ... even in the breach as once might have been the case.

Once upon a time, the Right at least pretended to stand for personal freedom, for freedom from overbearing control by government — local, state, and federal. For most of my life, the Right accused the Left of promoting intrusive government.

And now the shoe is on almost exactly the other foot as the Right attempts to strangle even the most basic human liberties of women, trans and gay people, and even those who wish to provide water and other life-saving aid to desperate refugees.
