Not being bullied because you're rational enough, smart enough to withdraw from high school society is in a sense (I think) to be bullied. A theme many LGBTQ people comment on is their missing adolescence. Not dating. Not having close circles of intimate friends as teenagers. While things are getting undeniably better in many places, that theme still rings strong in much of the U.S.
