No, that’s not what I’m saying at all. Nor am I saying that cops should not participate in HOP events. I’m saying that uniformed representatives of the NYPD should not participate, because their doing so sends a false (pink washing) message that the NYPD as an institution is a friend and ally of LGBTQ people.

The truth is, that as an institution the NYPD is currently engaged in a systematic campaign of brutality against LGBTQ people, particularly transgender people and people of color.

HOP has given the NYPD until 2025 to change their behavior and be invited back. I think that’s not just good, but absolutely necessary.
