No, common carp are not toxic and don’t require any special cleaning if you just take the center fillets that are free of tiny bones. But if you want to have more of the meat, you need to go to a little extra trouble to remove bones, which is where some of the undesirable myth may come from. Note, though, that in most of the world, common carp are one of the most popular food fish.
