But during the worst of the AIDS era, some gay men and transgender women, especially activists, felt a powerful urge to contract HIV on purpose. I heard many stories whispered about at the time. But Brad was my friend. I never dreamed he would become the subject of those whispers.

Readers who have noticed references to Pink Floyd in my writing may think me a fan of their work. I suppose that’s true. But I never really was a fan until after Brad turned me on to Dark Side of the Moon.
He became obsessed with the album after he became HIV positive.
