My next door neighbor —a middle-aged, single, impoverished mother struggling to raise her children — is a Trump fan.

She told me the other day that Trump is the only politician who's ever done anything for her.

The weird thing is that he has not. The policies he pushed while president, and the policies that he's talking about implementing now do nothing but hurt her.

She scrapes by on minimum wage jobs and hustles to pay the rent and buy food.

She's told me before that she relies on nutrition assistance programs and other benefits to help her make ends meet.

But everything she needs —from a hike in the minimum wage, to better public education for her children, to more affordable health care, to better food security — are things that Trump and the Republican Party oppose vehemently.

I didn't argue with her, because she's convinced that Trump is her savior.

It's hard for me to wrap my mind around that kind of mentality. You're right that we need to have a conversation!
