My mother’s father was like that. His children were afraid of him and disliked him a great deal. My grandmother tried, I think, but they say she was an abused woman.

I know that when he died, a lot of people were actually happy that he was gone. Nobody I know mourned him.

Mourning isn’t required. It’s OK. I’m sorry you had to have such a messed up person in your life, though.
