My little comment on that story got a lot of pushback too! But I stand by it as a Tolkien fan. There is simply no way to read the Lord of the Ring as a Christian allegory, and Tolkien obviously didn't intend it as such.

Of course his writing was strongly influenced by Christianity, but that's not the same thing as his novels somehow "being" Christian.

Tolkien's close friend C.S. Lewis wrote fiction that absolutely is Christian allegory, and he wrote some fiction that's also Christian apologetics at heart.

Tolkien didn't do that, and its a little baffling that some people would not only insist he did, but who would become quite angry see analysis to the contrary.
