My late partner was insulin-dependent for several years before he passed away in 1999. We sometimes had to worry about paying for his health care, but we never had to worry about paying for his insulin or his diabetic supplies for that matter. The prices were so low they barely impacted our budget.

I was shocked just a few years later to see how much insulin and diabetic supplies prices had skyrocketed. And prices stayed sky high for many years as poor people rationed insulin and suffered terrible health consequences like amputated limbs and death.

It took many years of those kind of horror stories, and tons of focused media pressure, before Eli Lilly decided to take any kind of action.

That's beyond shameful. And it's a perfect object lesson in how our capitalist society is seriously messed up right now, to the point of being morally depraved.

Thanks for the story!
