My dad was 78 when he passed in August. He wasn’t born with the same disadvantages your mother was, but he was born poor and lived the first 12 years of his life without indoor plumbing.

He was brought up in a racist system, taught to believe his white skin made him better than people like your mother.

He rejected those beliefs while he was still in his early twenties and in his own small way as a Baptist minister did some solid anti-racism work.

He wasn’t important, and he won’t be remembered much outside his family who miss him tremendously, but he did so much more good in his life than Donald Trump.

Like your mother, my dad wanted so much to see Trump thrown out of office. I wish he could have held on just a little bit longer.

Here’s to your mom. I bet she and my dad would have gotten along great.
