My birding week was filled with wrens! Or, I should say a particular pair of wrens who decided to take up parental duties in a nesting box attached to my garage.

It's been up there since 2020, and I never expected it to attract avian householders. Somebody gifted it to my dad not realizing it was designed to be decorative rather than functional.

Dad wanted me to put it up anyway, so I did.

Now four years later, I have been entertained by the beautiful song of a male wren building a nest of twigs and calling for a potential mate to inspect his handiwork.

Midweek, a female joined him and began lining the nest with soft material that I could sometimes see in her beak.

They've gone a bit quiet now that the courtship songs are done, but it's quite lovely sitting out of the porch and watching the two of them flitting in and out of the most decorative birdhouse on the block.
