My biggest problem with corporations that do the June Pride dance is how they often dance with politicians working to hurt LGBTQ people.

They don rainbow colors for a month while they're also stuffing the coffers of Republican lawmakers busy passing laws to discriminate against us and persecute us.

Every year people like me will write articles about how supposed queer corporate allies (just look at their beautiful rainbow logos in June!) are giving millions of dollars to politicians passing anti-queer laws.

And then the corporations will counter with some meaningless statement about how they value supporting politicians in their communities ... or something, usually just a collection of words that make sounds but not sense.

The messages really boil down to, "We're going to do what we do, and besides HRC gave us a perfect score so we're just awesome. Don't be a party pooper. Come to our fab Pride party."

I've never been able to understand how someone could expect us to be happy that they're funding politicians who hate us and are working to destroy us.

Mostly though, it's the unstated message from these corporations that bothers me. "We're hedging our bets. We're giving money to these hateful politicians in case they gain a lot of power, so we can curry favor with them."

To me, that makes all the corporate rainbow stuff look sinister. Because I know how fast they'll turn on us if they think their bottom line is in danger.
