‘Moon over Berlin’ chapter alert and author’s notes —

Dima’s depressed and Juliette wants to smuggle him back to the East. She says he can claim he was kidnapped. But those Russians hanging around outside the apartment? Looks like they’re the ones with the kidnapping plans! Will they really shoot Ian?

Author’s notes:

Before I moved to Germany, I thought Black Forest cake was one of those American inventions like spaghetti and meatballs — not really authentic. Not so! It’s very German and very popular. Food shopping in Berlin was different for me in many ways, not least because a lot of the packaging was unfamiliar. I had to unlearn the habit of waiting for electric eyes to open doors, and I had to remember to carry a shopping bag. Food markets rarely provided paper or plastic bags for customers. You either brought your own or went without.
