With the KGB on his heels once again, Dima agonizes. Western decadence, memories of Pioneer camp, and visions of a naked Ian fill him with remorse. Time to put away childish things, he thinks. An encounter with the bejeweled poodle starts him down a path to a frightening decision.

Back in the 80s, the area around the windmills on Mykonos was a well known gay cruising spot. I once hooked up there with a cute guy who claimed to be a Kennedy. I doubt he was telling the truth, but he might have been. Several people had pointed out an anchored yacht that was supposedly owned by the Kennedy clan.
I had originally planned to have Ian or Dima discover the cruising area, but the way things worked out, I’d have had to jam it into the plot pretty artificially.
It may be interesting to the story that the guys are on the “gayest” of the Cyclades islands, and neither of them seems to realize that fact. As things stand, I don’t think Dima experiences his strong attraction for Ian as an identity. I think he lacks the conceptual framework to do that.
