Author’s Notes:

Small villages with small hotels abound on Santorini. As I wrote the final chapters of the first draft of this novel, I kept in mind that without 21st-century technology, tracking somebody down who doesn’t wish to be found would be pretty difficult. How things have changed in my own lifetime! I set the novel in 1989, not so long ago. But the ending would not work today, I think. The anonymity and privacy people used to take for granted have vanished in a puff of technological smoke.
