Mike, it is neither radical nor extreme to protest against people who are working to deny your humanity and your human rights. The Trump administration is working very hard to bully LGBTQ people and to hurt them.

Given that the Red Hen staff is made up of many LGBTQ people, it would be rather difficult to characterize the protest as simply being political.

It goes far, far deeper than that.

When one’s equal rights and humanity are at stake, rules of civility apply in very different ways.

Would you expect a black person to serve a member of the KKK?

A Jew to serve a neo Nazi?

The Trump Administration is exactly the equivalent of white supremacists when it comes to LGBTQ issues.

The administration’s positions are extreme and getting worse.

Saying that we should all just love one another and accept differences of opinion overlooks the fact that the opinions that Trump and his staff are pushing are fundamentally unloving and inhumane — toward LGBTQ people.

That’s to say nothing of the inhumane situation at the southern border. Trump and his people are weilding the powers of the United States there in a manner that is nothing short of barbarous.

Civilized people must object to that. Loving people must object to that.

Sarah Sanders must not expect that she can be the mouthpiece of evil and then just lead her life among decent people expecting that we will overlook what she and the rest of the administration is doing.
