Me two three and four!
I don’t sugarcoat many of my posts. I let truth fly. And some people just hate that.
But I have ask myself who I’m writing for. If I were trying to sell different worldviews and ethical foundations to homophobes and haters, I’d need to be doing something more like therapy than truth sharing. I guess there’s a place for that. But I’m not that guy.
I’m writing for an to people who are ALREADY decent, and moral, and full of love, but who may need a little boost of understanding to take another few willing steps down the road. I’m THAT guy, and I think that’s OK.
I think you’re that woman, and I think that’s OK too. I’ve learned from you. You don’t put me off. Because I WANT to learn. I’m your audience and so are countless people like me.
We all have our own styles. Kay Bolden and Sam McKenzie Jr. lay it on the line too, not mincing words. Hell, Kay ripped into me once, and I deserved it, because I’d written something thoughtlessly without considering the impact of my words. No problem.
I respect Clay Rivers and his new project because I think (and he can correct me if I’m wrong) that he may be trying to reach people who need a little more help, using a gentler approach than true allies take with one another.
I wrote about allies yesterday, and posted the story this morning. I made the point at the end about WHO I was writing to, and already a couple of people have asked me what use it is to “preach to the choir.” I think there is use. Choirs aren’t always on key or in tempo.
Getting into harmony is important.
