Me! I would have been thought it!

But then, I've read, "The Great Mirror of Male Love," a collection of stories by Ihara Saikaku published in Japan in 1687. It's divided into two sections, the first being stories of idealized male/male love among the Samurai, the second section sharing the same theme, only set in the "floating world" — the formal Tea House entertainment or geisha world.

This book has the distinction of being the first mass-market book in Japan produced with movable type. That's kind of funny if you think about it. The first book produced by movable type in Europe was the Bible.

In Japan, that honor goes to a collection of erotica! (Well, the stories aren't all that explicit, but they'd definitely be banned in Florida and Texas if you know what I mean. 😂)

I'd love to see a world in which we made enough progress so a book like that could inspire films and a deeper understanding of human sexuality and romantic potential.
