Maybe. The wasting of sperm thing is from an ancient passage in the Old Testament that nobody is really quite sure what it means. It has something to do with ancient Hebrew temple rituals and hazy rules about men marrying their dead brothers' wives.

None of that could possibly apply to modern society, not given our taboo regarding plural marriage. We no longer think that men are required to marry their brothers' widows in order to take care of them, because we don’t treat women as the property of father’s and husbands anymore.

(Well, except when we do.)

And of course, we don’t think it’s cool for men to have more than one wife, which is what the whole passage is necessarily centered around.

Homosexuality in the Catholic Church, rather than being biblically textual, is a problem that goes back to the last of the ancient philosophers as the Roman Empire was disintegrating in the West.

The problem with homosexuality for the Catholic Church has almost nothing to do the Bible and almost everything to do with thinkers like Augustine of Hippo who hated women and hated sex even more. (Probably because he was closeted, but isn’t that an old and boring story?)

The Catholic Church has constructed an extra-biblical, philosophical rationale for declaring that loving sexual relationships between same gender-couples are depraved and disordered.

It’s based on the extra-biblical notion that God hates sex that isn’t procreative.

That notion is obviously untestable. It’s as baseless as the rationale the Roman Catholic Church applied to torture and kill scientists who first observed that the Earth revolves around the sun instead of vice versa. They made both ideas up ‘philosophically: because they wanted them to be true regardless of what might be actually or observably true.

And they will not back down.

Despite his pandering propaganda, Pope Francis is among the worst of them. He defends these disgusting, false philosophies staunchly, even while making nice pastoral noises about treating us queer people nicely despite the fact that we’re disordered and depraved.

He’s a sexist, homophobic pig. Like practically every Catholic nun, priest, and bishop in the world is a pig.

I’ve read Francis’s writings in Spanish when he was a cardinal in Argentina fighting against same-sex marriage. He is absolutely all in on the ridiculous and ridiculously false ideas the church spreads about our depravity and disordered state. He called gay couples who want to marry and adopt children’s satanic.

To this day, he fights to stop same sex couples from adopting children, most recently in malta, where he lobbied strongly to stop that from happening

That mother fucker can kiss my ass.

It’s just beyond me how any human being who considers themselves decent and moral can be complicit with the evil of the Roman Catholic Church.

I wish decent people all over the world would stop acting like the Catholic Church is a decent institution and stop acting like leaders like Pope Francis are decent people.

They are not. There are as evil and disgusting as Evangelical Christians in the United States and we need to treat them like the pigs they are.
