Maybe, just maybe, in baseball, which is a more “intellectual” sport if that makes sense, than our football or even basketball. Like cricket, baseball is a seen as slightly more a game for “gentlemen” and tends to have a less raucous fan base.

But still … it would be difficult right now given how the right have regressed so rapidly in the last couple years.

Speaking of Manchester, I noticed by chance last night that the YouTube celebrity Adam B, an Irishman who just finished up a two-year stint as a Blue Peter presenter, has come out as gay and introduced his new boyfriend, a young Mancunian. Clearly, neither one of them is striving to master RP, and their clashing accents are delightful.

But it did occur to me, sadly, as I watched them together, that it would be very difficult for two early-20-somethings in the U.S. to do that today on mainstream youth television. Not without eliciting howls of protest, anyway.
