Mandatory religiosity in public servants has been such a live third rail in politics that I’m not surprised nobody is openly courting the nones.

Until, I think, very recently, doing so would have been toxic and counterproductive for most politicians, who tend to be risk adverse by nature.

Common political wisdom holds that even mentioning atheist and agnostics is dangerous. Even though the reality on the ground has probably changed, ordinary ways of doing things have stayed the same.

This might be one of those tipping point phenomena where practices don’t change much at all until they do, and then suddenly and dramatically.
