Lol! (Sorry, laughing with you in commiseration, not laughing at you.) I’m a gay man almost three times your age and I still don’t know anything about nail polish, makeup, or women’s fashion.

I don’t watch Queer Eye or Pose, though I’m delighted both shows exist and thrilled that some people love them.

I don’t think any of my queer friends (of various generations) are surprised I have my own set of interests that don’t necessarily intersect with stereotypes. We know how diverse we are, after all.

But my straight friends can be a little surprised sometimes. It took one of my straight buddies a long time to realize that I liked going fishing with him, not because I was trying to expand my horizons as a gay man but because I like fishing.

So, you know, to my straight friends … I’ll be your gay best friend, but you may not necessarily understand what that means.
