Lion’s Den Chapter Alert!

Nobody expects the New York Inquisition. David surely doesn’t. The summer ends in a blinding flash of glitz and glamor, but something dark and horrifying is about to bloom and become visible. Buckle your seatbelts, the story takes off in earnest with this chapter.

Chapter Notes:

The real-life Howie helped organize several charity boat cruises like the one I describe in this chapter. I sold my share of tickets, but he was the mover and shaker, along with Cowboy Hank, whom I regret not writing into this novel. My husband Lenny, Carla, Howie, and many of our close friends and families loved those boat parties. The real Hilda never went on one. She was much too frail.

A good friend of mine who criticizes art for a living helped me with the review at the end of this chapter. It’s important to the story and contains many clues for attentive readers, but it’s also meant to be tongue-in-cheek. While it imitates the language of real art critics, it also pokes sly fun. See if you can spot places where the sentences parse down to saying nothing at all!
