Like Michigan where I live, I'm given to understand that Kansas is quite a polarized place, politically speaking. Rural areas like the communities I'm writing about here tend to be quite conservative politically. I think that's one of the reasons why it's so encouraging that the support these young women are getting is coming from their rural neighbors.

That's not something you would probably guess by looking at red and blue checkers on a county political map.
