LGBTQ advocates like me have been following this matter with keen interest. While the EU’s stand is very encouraging, of course, our colleagues in Poland warn us that things may yet get worse before they get better.
Law & Justice ran as much on a Euro-sceptical platform as they did on an anti-LGBTQ platform. Privately, many LGBTQ activists in Poland worry that on the short-term, anti-European sentiment will actually strengthen the Law & Justice base of support.
The question that begs to be addressed: Is this just an EU shot over the bow, warning of more significant punishment in future?
Or will the EU decide this symbolism is enough?
