Kind of makes you think about "officer safety," doesn't it? Those are the two magic words cops invoke when they're about to abuse the civil rights or the physical persons of members of the public.
They have to drag somebody out of a car, knock them to the ground and put them in a painful handcuff hold because ... officer safety.
They have to spray an innocent person directly in the eyes with pepper spray because ... officer safety.
They have to shoot a fleeing suspect in the back because ... officer safety.
They have to search the vehicle of somebody they pulled over on pure pretense because ... officer safety.
The bodies of cops are high holy altars. Let not one hair of a cop's head be moved out of place, let them not suffer the slightest risk to their lives or health. Officer safety is sacrosect. (But let's not talk about the fact that garbage collectors suffer more work-related injuries and deaths than cops.)
Why didn't cops rush into that school and try to save some of those children? Why, officer safety of course. The most important principle of American policing is that no police officer ever put himself at risk of his safety. God forbid.
Have you ever watched videos of cops brutalizing Black people while crowing about officer safety? I sure have, and it's nauseating.
I know there are many good cops in the united states, but a large percentage of them are brutal racist bullies and cowards to boot. Why do we have so much trouble with racist police brutality? Because so many cops are such terrible people.
