Just as an example, high quality men’s cotton dress shirts always contain extra buttons you can use to replace ones that fall off. A high quality dress shirt is easier to clean and looks nicer for much longer.

But I think your ultimate point that we all need to own fewer clothes is really important. Clothing used to be more sustainable because it used to be much more expensive. Cheap clothing has given us all the idea that clothes are disposable or should be disposable.

No amount of sustainable practices can counteract the enormously toxic effect of buying clothes only to throw them away a short time later.
