Just as an aside, I’ve been using WhatsApp for years to to keep in touch with friends around the world when SMS texting isn’t possible. I wasn’t one of the initial users, but I got on board pretty early.

It seems to me that since Facebook acquired WhatsApp, I’m getting more and more WhatsApp spam, which I never used to get at all. I didn’t even think WhatsApp spam was a possibility.

Today, I have to delete several unwanted messages a day from people who are selling sex or some variant of a banking scam.

I don’t know Facebook is responsible, but it’s certainly happening on their watch, and it makes me feel (rightly or wrongly) that I’m victim to monopolistic practices that have ruined a really good thing.
