Jeffry J. Iovannone and Phaylen Fairchild, what really puzzles me about the whole thing is that I witnessed how Ru Paul came up.

Ru used to be a featured performer at Wigstock when it was still at Tompkins Square Park, decidedly ungentrified and very much not focused on gay, white men.

He performed among all sorts of people, many of them part of the House system, and many of them decidedly not cis and white.

Wigstock and other extravaganzas that Lenny and I used to attend were never primarily about gay/cis white men in drag, though that was always part of it.

We got us some white/gay-washing going on here.
