I’ve often wondered why archaeologists assign particular religious or spiritual motivations or explanations to structures or artifacts they uncover. And given we have no way to know what Paleolithic people were thinking, that at least no direct evidence exists, I wonder if speculation is interesting or even responsible.

Your speculation about kids wondering down into a cave to paint animals just because it’s cool sounds as convincing as a spiritual explanation.

And if they got high off reduced oxygen? Well, people like getting high, don’t they?

Especially at universities, now that I think about it. Sooooo… you think these academics might consider that. Lol!
